The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1975 by concerned local citizens to help unwanted and stray animals in Marquette county. UPAWS does not receive any Federal, State or County funding but relies completely on the generosity of its citizens, members and buisnesses through donations and various fundraising activities.

2014 Burke Pet Portrait Fundraiser
Create a lifetime memory of your special furry friend with a beautiful professional portrait! Burke Photo is holding their annual pet portrait fundraiser to benefit UPAWS again this year!
It’s a chance to get a high quality photo & a beautiful 10x13 portrait, with all proceeds benefiting our shelter.
April 8th is set aside for individual pet portraits (a $69 donation), and April 12th is for ‘People & Pets’ (a $99 donation). The ‘Outdoor Pet & People’ (a $129 donation) is for a session to be scheduled at designated areas June through August. The voucher for the session must be purchased by April 18th.

July 4, 2014, 8:30 a.m. starting time, rain or shine.
Registration / Start / Finish at Picnic Rocks Park, corner of Lake Shore Blvd. and East Fair Ave., Marquette, Michigan. Registration 7:30-8:15 a.m. - bring completed lower portion of this form and $15 (exact amount please; only a limited amount of change will be available) to Picnic Rocks event day. Dogs entered receive 4th of July bandana (while supplies last).

NOTE: This is primarily a fun run / walk. The following 8 Overall Fastest Dogs will receive trophies in both the 1 Mile and 2.5 Mile: 1st Dog with Human Male, 1st Dog with Human Female, 1st Dog with Youth Boy; 1st dog with Youth Girl (Youth awards = age 12 & under). Except for the overall winners, the event will be untimed; if you wish to clock your own time, kindly wear a wristwatch.
Dog Costume Contest for entrants at 9:30 a.m. (right after run / walk), with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes!
NOTES: Dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, under control, & have current shots. Owners must pick up after their dogs at Park and on the course. Children age 8 & under must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs allowed on beach in Picnic Rocks area.
