Bella - Isabella

(submitted on January 12th, 2008)

Our 5-year-old cat Isabelle was surrendered to the shelter in early December with some bleeding thought to be caused by a urinary tract infection. She was very shy and skinny, weighing about 6 pounds, and didn't like to be picked up. But her blue eyes were so huge and afraid, staring at me from under a blanket at the back of her kennel, that I just had to hold her! I took her out (despite her protests), sat her on my lap, and fell in love with her immediately. We took her home the next day. When we had her spayed, the vet told us she had Cystic Uterine Disease, which causes big tumors to grow in the uterus and was the cause of her bleeding and pain. The poor cat didn't like to be picked up because it hurt so much, and was skinny because she was sick!

But spaying solved all Bella's health problems and a month later, she weighs almost 7 pounds and is the self-proclaimed queen of our house. Nothing fazes her - not even Christmas parties or the vacuum cleaner! She's always hanging around, sitting on a lap purring, flopped over asking for a belly scratch, or wanting to play with her fish toy (which she drags around the house from person to person, meowing piteously, when we're busy working and can't play). She's so funny when she plays, batting and pouncing oh-so fiercely. She greets us at the door with happy chirps when we come home and first thing in the morning when we get up. Isabelle is the sweetest, most loving cat we've ever had! We're so happy that we found her!! She grabbed her second chance at life with all four paws and has already brought immeasurable happiness and laughter to ours.
