Jax (formerly Nolan) (submitted on February 20th, 2010) We adopted Jax (formerly Nolan) in the fall of 2009. Never owning a cat ourselves our position was swayed by our kitty loving son, Dane. Every time that I would stop at the shelter for an errand, Dane would come along and snuggle with every feline that he could.
It got to the point that whenever we got into the car he would say "I wanna see kitty meow meows!" After keeping an eye on the website and stopping by the shelter a few times we came across our kitty meow meow.
Jax appeared to be a laid back dude who got along with other cats and dogs and after spending some time with Dane we could see that he was the kitty for us! Upon closer inspection Jax did have a few medical issues (sinus infection/weight loss) which he developed while he
was a stray. We filled out the adoption paperwork and he was on his way to the veterinarian the next day. After a few courses of antibiotics to clear up his sinus infection, some hand feeding and a little TLC, Jax was on his way to recovery. And because cats do not eat what they cannot smell, once his infection was cleared up Jax began to eat on his own again (and hasn't stopped since by the way:).
Jax has filled out nowadays, he has a nice shiny coat and bright green eyes. He is super neat with his potty habits. He also has developed a liking for playing with toys and harassing Ruby (our golden retriever). He is a wonderful companion and when he feels like it and a source of entertainment for our son. He warms our laps on cold winter nights and greets us at the door when we come home.
While some people may be hesitant to adopt a cat like Jax, a 4 year old (previously) unaltered adult cat, we sure are glad that we did! He has all the qualities we were looking for, mellow, established potty habits, just a little to large to be easily picked up by a toddler and content to just hang out around the house all day.
So one day when you are considering pet adoption please keep in mind these wonderful mature felines, they are great for just about any home. In closing I would like to personally thank the MCHS, it's staff, shelter manager Dayna for her helpful information and especially Ann Brownell for her continued efforts and compassion to find every animal the home that they deserve. The shelter is lucky to have her as a volunteer and many animals are adopted everyday simply because they were able to see them posted on the shelter's website (www.upaws.org).
