What's Happening at the Shelter?

Help Meadow & Pepper Heal! They NEED YOU!

This month two little souls came into our lives, seeking a helping hand and some love. They both arrived severely neglected, lost and in need of care. We were not sure they'd survive, but they have surprised us with their will to heal and their ability to hold onto a wonderful personality. (view their photos on the bottom of this page)

PEPPER came to UPAWS in late May. She was found in need of severe medical care. UPAWS rushed her to the vet for emergency surgery. Pepper had an inguinal hernia, causing her insides to push their way out - leaving Pepper with a large mass, severe discomfort and the inability to potty. We are unsure how long Pepper lived with this condition, but her little legs have deformed from the pain. Poor baby! But despite the pain, Pepper always had a tail wag for the staff and vets. She went through surgery and worked her way towards healing. A few weeks later she needed another surgery to finish up her recovery. During this time Pepper struggled to potty and could hardly walk - but after her last surgery her will to heal took over and she made her way to recovery.

UPAWS received a call a week ago from a kind person that woke up one morning to find a little white dog on her porch. This little white dog, MEADOW, was bloody and in obvious pain. She was rushed to the vet and found to have a mammary tumor the size of a baseball that had abscessed and left a gaping and raw hole. We don't know where Meadow came from or how long she was in pain, but she made it to the vet just in time. Meadow received surgery and antibiotic and lots of rest. Each day she is feeling better and we are starting to see the darling personality underneath. We even saw a little tail wag and prance today! What an amazing desire to love and live!

Pepper and Meadow are doing well, but they are asking for your help. The cost to save these sweet soul was over $1400 - completely depleting our Hope for Healing fund! Pepper and Meadow are asking you to donate to help cover their cost and to make it possible to help others like them. Pepper and Meadow are also asking for you to help them find a forever family. They are looking for someone to help keep them healthy so they never has to go through such pain and discomfort again, but they is also looking for a new home that will give her the love that they deserves.

Because of these two dogs, our Hope for Healing fund is more important than ever.
